
It means, “They can’t take away what I’ve already danced.” When we think of someone who died before us, we deliberately remember the good times we had together. Death is powerless to take those memories from us.
I created the artwork last year for a dancer friend, but didn’t know what else I might do with it. Then I ran across the Cuban saying, and knew they needed to be together. The two seem to amplify each other in a beautiful way.
