Election Eve

“Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying unsuitable remedies.”
—Ernest Benn (1875–1954)

Benn was a British writer and publisher. His father, John Benn, was a politician, and so was his nephew, Tony Benn.

You may have heard this quote attributed to Groucho Marx, but there is no evidence he ever wrote or said it. And if he did, he was probably paraphrasing Benn.

Another Bennism: “Liberty is being free from the things we don’t like in order to be slaves of the things we do like.”
