Book Learnin’

Never make fun of someone if they mispronounce a word.
It means they learned it by reading.

When I was a young man I visited my aunt and uncle, and at dinner I said a word that stopped the conversation cold: I mispronounced it. “You might be right and we might be wrong,” they said — and my uncle grabbed a dictionary off a shelf within reach of the dining room table. Obviously this sort of thing had come up during dinner conversations before! They helped me pronounce it, and I’ve remembered it since. The lesson wasn’t really so much that I learned to pronounce that one word, but rather the respectful way they helped me learn it. They’re both dead now, but thank you Lottie and Doug!

Yes, I had learned the word from my reading but no, I didn’t write the saying shown in the meme.
