“You can’t turn back the clock you can’t turn back the tide
Ain’t that a shame.
I’d like to go back one time on a roller coaster ride
When life was just a game.”
—Queen, “These Are the Days of Our Lives”
It’s one of my favorite Queen songs, in large part due to the ending lines…
These are the days of our lives.
They’ve flown in the swiftness of time.
These days are all gone now but some things remain.
When I look and I find, no change.
Those were the days of our lives, yeah.
The bad things in life were so few.
Those days are all gone now but one thing’s still true:
When I look and I find …I still love you.
[Whispered: I still love you.]
…and Brian May’s incredible yet understated guitar work.
Freddie Mercury was very ill when this was filmed: he died 6 months later. And who was he speaking to? I believe it was Mary Austin. “The only friend I’ve got is Mary, and I don’t want anybody else,” he once said. “To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage.” He left his house and royalties to her.
Happy New Year: Make 2020 great!
